What is Assistive Technology?

As defined in the Assistive Technology Act of 1988 (also known as the Tech Act), the term assistive technology device means any item, piece of equipment, or product system – whether acquired commercially off the shelf, modified, or customized – that is used to increase, maintain, or improve the functional capabilities of people with disabilities. The term assistive technology is often referred to by the acronym AT.
